MAKING THE DIGITAL TANGIBLE

XRCamp ART + TECH is an initiative by MUD Foundation that explores how emerging technologies can be used for artistic expression, spatial storytelling, and cultural preservation.

Hosted this year as a two-week module within Locust Art Builders: Summer Art Intensive for Teens (LAB 2025), the program invites youth artists to create immersive artworks using 3D scanning, modeling, digital archives, and XR design tools.

Participants work hands-on with mobile photogrammetry, XR Creator Studio, and fabrication processes to build virtual environments and prepare physical components for exhibition. Projects culminate in a collaborative showcase inside The Verse, MUD’s WebXR gallery.

No prior experience is required—just curiosity, openness, and a desire to explore how art and technology intersect.

ABOUT LAB 2025

Locust Art Builders (LAB) is a five-week pre-college art intensive hosted by Locust Projects, Miami’s longest-running alternative art space. Now in its 15th year, LAB offers high school students a unique opportunity to work alongside professional artists and build a collaborative exhibition from the ground up.

XRCamp is proud to participate in LAB 2025 through technical mentorship, digital curriculum, and immersive art practices.

WEEK 1

 June 30 – July 3 (No class July 4)

Theme: Capturing Reality: Photogrammetry & 3D Archives

Mentors: Rodolfo Peraza, Eric Hupe

Students learn to document physical objects and spaces using mobile photogrammetry and process them into digital 3D models. After optimizing their creations using open-source software, they prepare assets for immersive environments and digital preservation.

Key Skills:
  • Mobile photogrammetry

  • Meshroom (photogrammetry processing)

  • Blender basics and geometry cleanup

  • Metadata writing

  • Introduction to WebXR publishing

WEEK 2

July 7 – July 10

Theme: Building Immersive Worlds: XR Environments & Fabrication

Mentors: Rodolfo Peraza, Yoan Zaldivar, Noel Bolaños (remote)

This week, students create and publish virtual installations using XR Creator Studio. They explore generative design tools, prepare digital artworks for fabrication, and prototype immersive museography.

Key Skills:
  • XR Creator Studio for immersive exhibition design

  • AI image-to-3D workflows

  • 3D model optimization and file export (.glb, .obj, .stl)

  • Scene testing for VR headsets and mobile AR

  • Final presentation in The Verse

  • Maddy Dewlap – Installation Support, Locust Projects
